What about sulfates?
If you are even just a little interested in hair care, you’ve heard the word sulfate. It has gotten a bad rap over the last few years. Let’s explore the truth of the matter. Sulfates are surfactants. They are used for cleansing, lathering and assists with thorough rinsing, allowing the product to do a more effective job of cleansing the hair and scalp. Aveda products are carefully formulated to enhance the best performance of all our products… Aveda contains a range of ingredients, like essential oils, botanicals and other operative ingredients. When you use the right product for your hair, and used properly, sulfates are perfectly safe.
Aveda products use ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS) and sodium coco sulfate, both of which are plant-derived from coconut, gentle and are known for safe usage. We don’t use sulfate cleansers such as sodium lauryl sulfates (SLS) or SLES in any Aveda products.
When in doubt consult a hair professional. We understand there is so much information out there we would love to put you at ease about your favorite Aveda product.
